Introduction
Playing an important role in translation field, literary translation has been given many criteria throughout the ages, such as "ya", or elegance, initiated by Yan Fu, "hua”, or pomposity, by Qian Zhongshu, and "spiritual conveyance", by Fu Lei. But there is a common characteristic in them, that is, literary translation should convey the spirit of the original works. Just like Mao Dun once said:" literary translation consists in conveying the artistic ideorealm of the original in another language so that the reader will be inspired, moved and led through an aesthetic experience like one who reads the original. However, the "ya" is too wide and the "hua" is too abstract to describe it while the "spiritual conveyance" expresses the criterion exactly. As one of the most representative theories in literary translation, the conveyance of spirit, initiated by FU Lei, the similarity in spirit in the translated works rather than only similarity in form, means success or failure to the translation.
