Abstract
Ernest Hemingway is recognized as one of the preeminent American fiction writers of the 20th century. His novels and stories, predominantly concerned with disillusionment and personal loss, heroic tests of physical and emotional courage, and stoic resolve in the face of an apparently meaningless world, are distinguished by an evocative, deceptively simple style. To begin with, the author gives a brief account of the literary form and typical character in Hemingway’s short stories. Then, several authorized opinions are presented to support the main content of this paper. As it goes on, the author analyze the three main creative factors relevant to Hemingway’s death theme and disclose the implied meaning of “death” through the analysis his three critical short stories. At the end of the paper, the author explores the aesthetic value and cultural value of Hemingway’s short story which has a profound effect on literary world.
