Translation, as a bridge between East and West, is becoming more and more important. Translation works should focus on being faithful to source text as well as functional equivalence. In order to make translation adequacy, people have used many translation methods, including word-for-word translation, free translation, supplementary translation, etc. No matter what methods they take, overtranslation and undertranslation are still exist.
This paper aims at a study of the factors that lead to the loss of fidelity in translation from the following aspects.

In translating, translators must not only deal with the two languages¡ªEnglish and Chinese, but also they should face with two different culture system with much different origin. Translation is the precursor of enlightening, the medium of improvement of science and technology, the bridge of exchange ideas. Language has a closely relation with culture, we may say, language is an active part of culture, it can¡¯t exist without culture. Just as John Deency said: ¡°Each language gets its life and nutrition from culture.¡±
